Honda is really diversifying and although they are a bit late to the electric car game, we believe that their Urban EV Concept will make up for that. If you didn’t know the Honda Urban EV Concept is an homage to some of the small cars that Honda made, like the small Civic hatchback that was made in the 70s, and its size is a lot close to the latest Fiat 500e. The thing which is very important is that Honda is planing to make serial version of this vehicle and they are not planning to change it very much from this concept vehicle.
Design
The Honda Urban EV Concept was presented at this year’s Frankfurt Auto Show by the Honda Motor Co. President & CEO Takahiro Hachigo. If we believe the company this concept, that brought back nostalgia to the viewers there, is a very good hint at what to expect from a production vehicle which will start sales at the 2019. Since it is still early in development and the vehicle that was presented at Frankfurt is still a concept, details about the means of propulsion for the Honda Urban EV Concept are not yet disclosed. The one thing that is sure is that the company’s Automated Network Assistant concierge service will be a part of the vehicle. This piece of tech according to Honda “learns from the driver by detecting emotions behind their judgments” and based on that plans its next steps. The final version should bring only minor changes like rear-view mirrors, taller poles for safety, smaller wheels, but the retro spirit of this electric car will definitely remain. Also, the reverse opening door that we can see on the concept has very little chance of remaining in the production version of the model.
Interior
The interior of the Urban EV Concept is very simple and contains only the basics, packed in a very futuristic design. The only posh thing about it is the rear hinged door that resembles those of the Rolls-Royce car. The interior can hold four people and the first thing you will notice is its very wide display that is on top of the dashboard. This display will offer all the info you need, and you will be able to talk to the vehicle through it, which is why the second thing you will notice is the lack of all possible buttons and knobs on doors, steering wheel and the dashboard as well.
The Urban EV Concept is a vehicle that will be jam packed with tech, and some of the pointers what to expect were revealed in Frankfurt and it comes in a form of interactive multilingual messages that are displayed between the headlights and they include greetings, advice for other drivers on the road, or charging status updates, and it is all tucked neatly at the front of the car. To be realistic interior will most probably be totally changed when it come to the production version.
When can we expect Honda Urban EV Concept
The info that was also revealed at Frankfurt is that the production vehicle of the Honda Urban EV Concept will be available only for Europe when it arrives in 2019. This information is now officially confirmed and its production will start at the beginning of 2019. We believe that it is very unlikely that the car will not reach the Japan market, but there is also a possibility that it will be replaced by larger Clarity line and hybrid versions of cars like the Accord. Since it is still way too early to speculate anything, we will be patient and notify you as soon as something concrete comes up. Stay tuned.
