2019 Honda Civic Type R Release Date

Honda released the all new Civic Type R little over a year ago and so far the car managed to impress everyone who drove it. Unfortunately it looks like it still isn’t really capable to compete with some of the top cars in its class. One of the main reasons for this has to be the car’s unusual look and manual-gearbox only. However, things will change and it looks like they’ll start with the 2019 Honda Civic Type R. Even though so far the manufacturer didn’t say a word, it looks like the 2019 update will be something special. For starters, the car will likely come with a new price-tag and it should offer a different set of features as well. The end result will likely offer better value for money and more performance too.

In details

As before, the new 2019 Honda Civic Type R will use the same platform and running gear as its predecessor. However, this time around the rear suspension geometry will change for some of its versions. Why? Well, it looks like the car may receive an all wheel drive system. This would get a different rear suspension in order to be able to house a differential. On top of that, as it will be heavier, the spring rates will be different all around the car. The brakes are also expected to change to something better but nothing has been confirmed so far.

Changes

Bestnetreview says, and we tend to agree, that one of the biggest drawbacks of the car had to be its looks. Even though the 2019 Honda Civic Type R is not going to change all that much, the car should still get a more polished design. We expect the fake rear and front vents to be gone and replaced with something a bit more tasteful. Also, the car’s massively large 20 inch rims might change to smaller 19 inch rims. Not only would these save some weight but they would also allow the car to drive a bit better than before.

The design of current model is amazing and hopefully those changes will make new model to look even more appealing.

The interior of the new Type R is not going to change all that much either. Here the passengers will likely benefit from a new infotainment system while a slightly higher-resolution instrument cluster should be in store. A small drawback will be the reduced trunk space for the all wheel drive model. As the rear suspension will be different, it will not intrude more into the cabin.

2019 Honda Civic Type R specs

The 2019 Honda Civic Type R should make use of the same 2.0 liter turbocharged K-Series inline four unit as before. This now offers 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque which is quite impressive for its size. The update on the other hand might make closer to 320 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. This would allow the car to hit 60 MPH faster while also having a higher top speed. The 6 speed manual transmission and front wheel drive system will remain standard across the range. However, it looks like Honda may add a new all wheel drive system in the mix. This would benefit from limited slip differentials as well as a torque vectoring system. The end result should become one of the fastest hatchbacks on the market. Also, unlike the FWD model, the AWD version is more than likely going to use an automatic gearbox as standard, possibly Honda’s 10 speed unit.

Release date and price

It looks like Honda will only release the future Type R some time during 2019. This is quite some time away and it will only allow its rivals to get a better hold of the market. Even so, Honda will change things slightly starting with the upcoming months. The price is set to get lower to around $34,000 for a base model. This is still quite a bit of money for a Civic but considering the performance it has to offer, this should still be well worth it. The 2019 version of the car will likely get things even lower. Some suggested a base model will cost closer to $32,000. Honda will release a second version for close to $38,000. These two cars will different in two different key areas but more on that a bit later.

Enjoy in current model until the the new cheaper version of Type R arrive…
