Since 2005. the Ridgeline’s main goal is to be Honda’s representative at the mid-size truck class of vehicles. First released in January 2005 as the 2006 model and since than the Ridgeline is one of the most profitable Honda vehicles, despite its low sales numbers. In 2013 the Ridgeline suffered first major redesign, and since then there were no big changes. In a way, it is not really the design, what makes this car special and there is much more to say about things we can’t really see. It’s steel reinforced uni-body frame, its powertrain, braking system, and technical specifications overall. So the article about new 2018 Honda Ridgeline will be more orientated that way.
Exterior and interior
As said before, the Ridgeline is the mid-size truck class of vehicle, and its design is just that. Just looking at the vehicle, a spectator will think of power, strength, off road abilities and working usability. It kinda looks the same as the other manufacturer’s midsize trucks, but, is there a way to design it differently? If you are looking for beauty and difference, just go and buy an Aston Martin or a Ferrari. The Ridgeline is a purpose built vehicle, and it does have a wide specter of usability. With its maximum payload of 713 kg and the pulling power enough for just under 2300 kg on the trailer (in AWD mode), you can transport pretty much anything.
The Genious solution from Honda to all the utility workers, in bed’s right side there is an integrated compartment which houses the AC outlet, a great way to keep your batteries full between the jobs, while they are protected from elements. Again, Honda thinks about almost everything. Below the bed is yet another closed compartment in which a utility worker can store and transport his tools. It’s rather big dimensions allow a variety of uses. The tailgate can be opened downwards, as well as on the left side. Bed also contains 6 speaker system, that could be controlled by a smartphone.
Almost the same dashboard and infotainment system as before. The eight-inch display is expected on the dash. Equipment of the cabin will vary depending on the trim. The higher trim will be better equipped. Interior will follow the outside, simple and usable.
2018 Honda Ridgeline engine and specs
The 2018 Honda Ridgeline will be powered by the same 3,5 liter direct-injected VTEC V6 engine as before. Just the same as before, this engine is equipped with a Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) cylinder deactivation technology. During the aggressive start, driving on the steep roads or anytime you need more power, the engine operates on all six cylinders. In some „calmer“ conditions, continuous drive on the freeway or so, the engine cuts off three cylinders by shutting down intake and exhaust valves on those cylinders. All that technical mumbo-jumbo means that you will use a lot less fuel, and you will still have all the power needed, you just have to step on the throttle pedal and ask for it.
The powerplant is rated at 280 HP and 262 lb-ft of torque. The task of transferring the engine power to all four wheels is given to the 6-speed automatic transmission. Drive-by-wire throttle system ensures the quick engine response in off-road conditions. Intelligent variable torque system provides distribution of optimum torque between front and rear axles. Up to 100 percent of torque can be transferred to front wheels while cruising, and the maximum of 70 percent to rear wheels for the start or hard cornering. Also, up to 100 percent of torque can be given to left or right rear wheel, depending on needs and conditions.
There is much more to say about the new 2018 Honda Ridgeline, but, we can’t really write it all. There is no mistake, if you need a hard worker for your job, great performer for your off roading, new Honda Ridgeline can be the right choice for you.
