The Acura TLX is a mid-size luxury sedan manufactured by Acura, the luxury vehicle division of Honda, since 2014, and it was supposed to be a replacement of the TL and TSX sedans. A TLX GT is a race car version of the TLX with a twin turbo version of the direct injection V6 engine found in the production TLX sedan has also been developed by the Acura Motorsports Group at Honda Performance Development (HPD). This has a modified chassis and aerodynamic performance parts approved for Pirelli World Challenge competition. The Acura TLX GT was unveiled at the 2014 North American International Auto Show. It entered the GT class in the 2014 Pirelli World Challenge.
Exterior
The Acura TLX GT is barely TLX, but more Acura that you might expect. The wheelbase, roof, and doors are all stock dimensions, although all the bodywork is carbon fiber. This is probably where the resemblance with a TLX sedan stops and everything turns in high powered beast. As you might expect, there isa new HPD developed chassis and an aero kit, which includes a front lip spoiler, side skirts, front and rear bumpers and a huge rear wing, to keep the racer glued to the track. Everything is top notch, lightweight and made for speed. Six piston front brakes and 4 piston rears ensure you can brake a good 50 yards later than any high-end production car, and the relative lack of roll from the suspension keeps it glued to the road. This is one car that can handle our youthly wishes and desires, as well as carry its own with the best in GT class such as Ferrari 458, Mercedes SLS, and Porsche 911.
Interior
The 2015 Acura TLX GT is ripped inside, if we may use that term. Inside of this Acura is virtually non existent except for the essential parts that will skyrocket this machine forward. The front-mid engine location pushes the driver’s seat back to the B-pillar, so you sit like officer High tower from Police Academy, only with less visibility, meaning you really have to work to keep this ride stuck to the ground, overtaking opponents. But it is surprisingly easy to get used to this kind of driving. Steering is amazingly easy once you get rolling, but there is some getting used to gas and brake pedals. The brake pedal is so hard you feel like you’re standing on it just to get the pads to bite. Once engaged, they’re like an endless well of deceleration, with ABS somewhere down at the bottom of the abyss. Gas pedal is totally different,it’s easy and feels like you can put a feather on it to floor it, which means only one thing, this beast is made to be driven with wide open throttle.
2015 Acura TLX GT engine
Ooooo boy, here comes the really big thing. Well maybe not as big as You hope because the HPD (Honda Performance Development) took the base TLX’s direct-injected, V6 engine and strapped on a pair of turbochargers to bump its power to racing levels. Meaning that the TLX GT boasts with around 600 HP from its massaged 3.5 L twin turbo V6 engine, but it has a restrictor that probably limits it to around 550 HP in what race series call the “Balance of Performance” among all manufacturers. Weight is governed too to around 2,700 lbs. Acura hasn’t stated what its weight limit is, but figure the all-wheel-drive system weighs a healthy chunk. Still, that’s an exceptional power-to-weight ratio and it’s rewarded with a 0-60 MPH time of 2.6 seconds. But what’s most impressive about this car — and all race cars in this class — is the cornering grip which is achieved thanks to Pirelli P Zero racing slicks and Acuras aero kit.
Information’s about release date and price
Release date, Acura TLX GT is available since 2014, but when we say available we mean that the TLX sedan version is available for purchase not the GT made model. Price on the other hand of the sedan model TLX goes for around $31.000 and if the Honda ever sold the TLX version to other race teams, it would cost around $450.000. Hefty price tag but for a good reason.
