Based on a 2006 FCX concept, Honda Clarity became a milestone in the automobile industry. It was the first hydrogen fuel cell vehicle available for the commercial sale. If you like hybrid generation vehicles, new Clarity might be the right choice. Armed with the new technologies, 2018 Honda Clarity is to become a serious competitor in a family sedan class hybrids, and for the best performance, Honda is planning to make pretty many changes to make the car even better than its predecessor.
The completely redesigned vehicle, new 2018 Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid looks even more futuristic than the model before. The silhouette reminds a little of Citroen GSA, but it is not certain if the Honda actually aimed for that, in fact, they succeeded to link newest technologies with a little retro. The front is again dominated by a big intake grill and a Honda sign. Framing those two are futuristic LED head lights, and the fog lights placed a bit deeper in the front bumper. The bonnet is rounded and the windscreen simply continues from it.
As a family sedan, new Clarity is rather a long vehicle, almost five meters in length. The other dimensions have not been published yet, but one thing is for sure, all of the vehicles will be orientated to the fuel economy and independence from charging. The rear wheel is a bit covered by a fender, which again reminds of a retro design.
All about technology, but very simple designed, Clarity shows the intention to be a real family car, easy to use. Later hybrid models could be a bit confusing with all those buttons, switches and all kind of stuff, but not this one. The dash is almost blank, the only thing on it is a large touchscreen and a climate control underneath. It simply gives the feeling of comfort just by looking inside. The interior is in fact divided into four sections. The position of the batteries, which are placed right down the middle of a vehicle, actually splits the car in half. Shift by wire system is making the car a lot more convenient to drive and saves place too.
2018 Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid specs
The most interesting part of any hybrid vehicle is the engine. This one is rather strong, with maximum output power of 174 HP and 221 lb-ft of torque. All that power is provided by lithium-ion batteries, and they are charged by a hydrogen fuel-cell. The engine has absolute zero emission of gasses. When it comes to 0-100 Km/h the number is not really known, but it is excepted to be spectacular for a hybrid vehicle.
There is just one spot in all that beauty. Hydrogen fuel cell technology is rather new so there are no many filling stations, and the distribution of the new Clarity will be dependent on areas which provided those stations already. The maximum range with one filling of the tank is estimated to be almost 600 km which is pretty long distance driving for an electric car.
Honda taught of the safety features too, so we can except all the Hondas features included in other models, such as side curtain airbags, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Collision Mitigation Brake Control. There will be additions to protect hydrogen cells as well.
Release date and price
It is expected that the new Clarity will hit the roads at the end of 2017.,but Honda can easily postpone that for the beginning of 2018.
The price is unknown, because the new Honda Clarity is, in fact, a whole new car, not directly related to the previous version, so the price can vary pretty much. Except the price to be somewhere around $40,000.
